After years of careful restoration by Cockatoo Island’s volunteers, the historic motor boat FMB Sydney has passed her survey. She is now officially registered as a historic Australian vessel.
Built in 1945 as a support boat for the aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney, she ferried crew and supplies to and from the carrier during its years of service. She is small, but she played an important part in the navy’s daily operations.
Cockatoo Marine is honoured to look after The Sydney in our Dry Boat Storage facility on Cockatoo Island until she returns to the water for good. We’re proud to help protect a piece of Australia’s maritime heritage, just a short distance from where so much of that history was made.
